There are so many ways to create wigs. We promise you, they are not that scary! Some wig techniques include heat forming the fivers, splitting a wig, spiking, adding a foam core, layering, and wefting. Some people combine these techniques to create their wigs, but that’s not why we are here.
In this article, we will focus primarily on wefting your actual wig, and hiding your wig wefts
What are wefts?
They are individual strands of the synthetic or natural hair fiber. They are the strands sewn onto your wig cap when you part your wig hair. Wefting is designed to make a wig thicker than normal.
How do you hide wig wefts?
Step 1: Know your options
When it comes to wefting, you have a few options; you can either hot glue your wefts or sew them in. Sewing is cleaner than using hot glue, so if you have the time, we totally recommend hand stitching your wefts.
You can also buy wefts, but in this article, we want to show you how to make yours and hide them properly.
Step 2: Get prepared
To begin, you would be needing the following:
- Your wefts (Do not have them? You can purchase from us here at Perfect Line Swiss).
- A comb (There are reasons why we didn’t say a brush. We’d discuss them in the next steps).
- A pair of scissors
- A hand needle.
- A pin cusion
- Your actual wig (You can also purchase here).
- Alligator clips (We have the perfect ones for this task here at Perfect Line Swiss).
- A thread that matches the color of your wig/ and or the color of the thread of the previous wefts.
Step 3: Separate out your hair
The goal here is to add in new layers of wefts right in between the original ones that come with your wig. Pull back the hair so you can divide two wefts. It doesn’t matter where you start, what matters is where you want the thickness to start.
To separate the hair, use the back of your comb, an alligator clip, or a finger. Twist small chunks of hair and using your alligator clips, clip the hair to the top of the wig. It’s not compulsory that it looks pretty, but it has to separate all the hair between two wefts.
Step 4: Pin your wefts
Beginning at one point, pin your weft down into the wig head, and continue pinning until you reach the other end. If it’s too long, cut off the excess when you reach that end. You can place pins on every other elastic band, and ensure that you leave natural slack in between wefts.
Step 5: Sew in your wefts
Thread the needle and tie a knot at the end. (The knot should be big enough so it doesn’t slip through the solid above the ear piece of the wig).
Now, raise the wig up and thread your needle through where the first pin is. Sew at least 4 loops before mobbing to the next weft. Continue until you reach the end. Repeat steps 3-5 until there is no more weft.
Step 6: Comb out your thick wig
You’d see that your wig is thicker. Using a flash, you will see the two different layers of hair.
